We plan to operate the development so that, the net emissions of CO2 are zero.

The redevelopment of Clegg Hall Mills incorporates a number of measures to reduce energy use in the individual apartments and the houses. Achieving lower energy consumption will result in lower running costs for the home owners compared to operating a similar dwelling without the energy efficiency features.

As well as saving the owner money on fuel bills, the energy efficiency measures will reduce CO2 emissions. It is estimated that the resultant overall CO2 emissions from the domestic accommodation will be reduced by over 50% compared with a more conventional development.

energy efficient homes at Clegg HallAs well as operating with lower energy demand, Clegg Hall Mills will incorporate it's own 'green' generating plant to ensure that the energy consumed in the building will be supplied mainly from renewable sources. This will mean that emissions of carbon dioxide (the main greenhouse gas) from the Mills will be very low. It is planned to operate the building so that, on an annual basis, the net emissions of CO2 from the domestic properties are zero.

A basic description outlining some of the proposed renewable energy systems for Clegg Hall Mills are as follows:

    energy efficient under floor heating
  • Integration of Ground Source Heat Pumps using heat from external ground collectors laid within adjacent lake.
  • Intelligent control systems for energy efficient heating and hot water.
  • Underfloor heating throughout for high efficiency heating.
  • Low energy lighting and electrical appliances.
  • Heat recovery ventilation systems.
  • High efficiency gas condensing boilers.
  • High thermal mass through the retention of the existing concrete and thick walls, reducing overheating in summer and retaining comfortable temperatures during winter months.
  • Individual metering for all dwellings.
  • High insulation exceeding target 'U' values.

Halve your carbon Footprint & reduce your energy bills by up to 75%Clegg Hall Mills Ground PumpGround Source heat pumps extract heat from the environment by using a water/brine mix in pipe loops which transfers the heat into a water-based heating system which is then heated up a little more and used for under floor heating and your hot water. This technology is used here at Clegg Hall Mills as well as HEAT RECOVERY PUMPS which recover heat from inside a dwelling from solar energy, people, lighting and electrical appliances.

1. Energy is absorbed & changed into a gas from air, ground or water by refrigerants

2. The gas is compressed to increase its temp allowing it to condense and release its energy

3. The gas is then heated to supply your home with heating / hot water, before cooling to a liquid

4. An expansion valve allows it to lower its pressure allowing it to change state more easily

The cycle then starts over again!
IN SUMMARY, IT’S 450% MORE EFFICIENT!
