historic Clegg HallThe ownership and fortunes of Clegg Hall Mill changed over time. It became a cotton mill in the middle of the 19th century when it was purchased by James Tweedale (a clogger), who was one of the original members of the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society and it provided employment to 41 people.

In 1879 Thomas Wilson bought the mill and used it to spin cotton waste. Then, during World War I, production switched to wadding and absorbent cotton wool. After the war, cotton production at Clegg Hall Mill was replaced with the manufacture of flannelette.
